Working from pre-cut materials students will learn three simple enclosures: Folded Paper Portfolio, Phased Box, & Slipcase. Students will be guided through the various design, construction, applications, pros, cons, and special options for each structure.
Critical skills covered include
1) Scaling from object to enclosure
2) Box Construction and Covering
3) Scoring and Folding Paper
4) Options for combing and augmenting these basic structures
Materials to Bring: X-Acto Knife, Glue Brush, Bone Folder, Straight Edge, scissors.

About the Instructor | Andy Rottner
Andrew Rottner received a BFA from Wittenberg University in 2001 and an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. He has studied and worked as a bookbinder and book artist in the Bay Area since 2004 and teaches at San Francisco Art Institute as well as SFCB. Andrew's books, paintings and drawings have been exhibited locally and internationally including at Photo L.A and the Codex Book Fair in Berkeley. Andrew's imprint, Super Classy Publishing, produces mass market and fine press books with Bay Area artists and printers.
