In this one-day workshop learn European and Japanese paper marbling techniques, with two instructors. The Ebru technique of Western marbling and Suminagashi technique of Japanese marbling will be covered. These beautiful decorative papers can be used for a variety of purposes. Students will learn to create the free flowing patterns of Japanese water marbling using simply water, color and paper. Students will also learn to create the distinct patterns of Ebru style marbling using combs and rakes to create classical Venetian and French designs. It is a day to experiment making beautiful decorative papers!

About the Instructors | Carol Brighton & Pietro Accardi

Carol Brighton is a papermaker and printmaker living in Berkeley. She has taught at the Academy of Art and Magnolia Editions for many years and teaches private classes and exhibits her art work frequently.

Pietro Accardi owned a bookbindery in Turin (Italy) for 12 years. He worked for Turin's main public library, Municipal Archives, and University libraries restoring and binding books and he ran his own paper marbling and decorative box making business. Now he lives in Gardnerville, NV.
