Digital Design for Letterpress is a new course intended for designers, illustrators, or printers who would like to improve their design and pre-press skills for letterpress. We will explore foundational print design concepts and how they translate to the letterpress process.

The following technical topics will be reviewed: editing raster (bitmap) and vector images in Photoshop and Illustrator; scanning photographic images and calligraphy and converting them into vector files; printing multiple colors, including overprinting; and basic principles of digital typography and the composition of images and text together in InDesign.

A useful pre-flight guide for film and photopolymer plate production will be provided for students to take home at the end of the class.

Students will then apply their new skills by preparing digital art files for film and plate production in the same week as the Photopolymer plate class. Please note, you won't be printing your plates in this class.
