The use of eggshell panelling has been in use in various mediums largely since the Art Deco period , and has been used in many design bindings to great effect. This course covers one simple two-step method that gives great results with little effort. Panels to be constructed that can be applied using recessed inlays. Students must bring no less than 20 brown eggs cracked in two, all other materials will be provided.

About the Instructor | Gavin Dovey

Gavin Dovey started bookbinding in 1998, completing a course and receiving a qualification in Design Bookbinding at the London College of Printing. In 2005, Paper Dragon Books opened the doors to its first bindery on 26th street, in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, New York. In 2008 the bindery was moved to Brooklyn, and recently relocated in the summer of 2014 to Oakland, California.

Today Gavin works in his third bindery in the Cotton Mill Studios, in one of the bay area's most historical and exciting arts and crafts communities, teaching and producing fine, design and historical bindings, for various national and international institutions, rare book dealers, private collectors and private clients, and international artists.
