Do you have a band or art show or some sort of event? Make a limited edition letterpress printed poster to promote your event (or even to sell). There is a long and storied history of letterpress printed flyers (everyone from Elvis to the Lumineers to Katy Perry have done them). You work hard and should have posters that beautifully express what you do! Give people something to take home that will remind them of the amazing time they had at your event. This beginning-level workshop is designed to familiarize the uninitiated with the world of letterpress by offering hands-on experience with the Vandercook cylinder press and basics of setting type using SFCB’s vast collection of lead type and decorative ornaments. Students should feel free to bring in linocuts or photopolymer imagery they have already made (but definitely not required!) and the instructor will bring in many of her own plates for class use. Everyone will take home 25 of their very own letterpress printed posters!

Student Competencies/ Skills Gained After Completing Course:

  • Introduction to the art and craft of letterpress printing
  • Knowledge of movable type, cuts, relief printing
  • Introduction to composition, the composing stick
  • Introduction to the type case
  • Introduction to the Vandercook printing press
  • A grand ol’time showing off your prints at your event

Materials to Bring: Notebook and pen to take notes, any cuts/photopolymer you may have

Workshop + Materials Fee: $175.00
