Learn to print on Kelsey and C&P Pilot tabletop platen presses. Far smaller than a Vandercook, these clamshell-style presses are great for printing cards or small invitations. Unlike Vandercook cylinder presses, they are capable of printing on oddly shaped papers as well as those of unusual thickness, such as coasters.

Topics covered include typesetting, locking up the chase, handling registration, and printing edition work.

In Letterpress Core: Tabletop Platen Presses, students will learn how to pack the press, set the paper guides, use photopolymer plates, and clean and maintain the press.

This workshop qualifies participants to rent time on SFCB’s tabletop platen presses.

About the Instructor | Nina Eve Zeininger

Nina Eve has been obsessed with books since receiving Harold and the Purple Crayon as a child before she knew how to read. While receiving her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, she took as many book and printmaking classes as possible. She now spends her time working as the Project Coordinator and teaching at SFCB, making and selling her printed and bookish wares, and learning French.

"Nina is confident and reassuring. I like her approach to teaching us not to fear! It was all great."
