The French Linkstitch is a traditional sewing method used for binding books. Often, it's hidden by a hard spine but, instead of covering this beautiful sewing structure with a spine, in this workshop we'll let it sing true as we bind two blank journals with exposed spines. Students will work with SFCB's binding and cutting equipment and will learn the French linkstitch. One journal will have a soft cover, made from card stock, and the second journal will have a hard cover. Students will leave with two completed, blank journals ready for use.

Materials to Bring: Pencil for note taking, Optional: bone folder, awl, binding needles, scissors; if you have them.

Workshop + Materials Fee: $135.00

Date & Time: Thursdays, May 22 & 29, 2014 | 6:30pm-9:30pm

About the Instructor | Nina Eve Zeininger

Nina Eve Zeininger has been obsessed with books since before she could read when she received Harold and the Purple Crayon as a child. While earning her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, she took as many book and printmaking classes as possible and after graduating completed the Bookbinding Certificate program at the San Francisco Center for the Book. She now spends her time teaching book arts workshops throughout California, making and selling her printed and bookish wares, and playing fetch with her cats. You can view her work on her website ninaevezeininger.com and at her Etsy store neon sprinkles studio and follow her activities on her blog: Things I Make and Find.
