The Introduction to Bookbinding course teaches basic structures and stitches that every book artist should know in order to create a multitude of books. Discuss tools and materials for bookbinding and explore adhesives, paper types and uses, as well as grain for paper and book cloth. Learn a variety of structures—single-sheet book, accordion book, single-section pamphlet stitch, dos-à-dos, and Japanese stab—and make fun, simple books that can be turned into artists’ books.

The instructor will give a full overview of the San Francisco Center for the Book’s Bookbinding Program and how (and why) to obtain the SFCB Bookbinding Certificate.

About the Instructor | Nina Eve Zeininger

Nina Eve has been obsessed with books since receiving Harold and the Purple Crayon as a child before she knew how to read. While receiving her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, she took as many book and printmaking classes as possible. She now spends her time working as the Project Coordinator and teaching at SFCB, making and selling her printed and bookish wares, and learning French.

"Nina is confident and reassuring. I like her approach to teaching us not to fear! It was all great."

"This was one of the best-run workshops I have ever attended. Nina was helpful, attentive, and organized. Stellar!"

"Nina is awesome! She's fun, kind, and teaches just what's necessary for a 3 hour class."
