Discover how to create unique papers and textiles and combine them to make a hard covered book with Mexican stab binding.

Using dyes, inks and acrylics you will learn a variety of surface design techniques such as stenciling, stamping, wax resist, and photo-transfer. Fabrics created in class will be used for the hardback cover, the decorative papers will become content for the book. Simple embroidery techniques that can be used as embellishment will also be demonstrated. Students will be guided in ways to use design principles to express a poetic, narrative or purely visual theme.


Materials to Bring: Students can bring ideas for content of the book or just see what emerges when they play with the materials.

Workshop Fee (includes $15 materials fee): $95.00

About the Instructor | Stephanie Jucker

Stephanie Jucker is an exhibiting artist who uses mixed media and printing techniques in her paintings, books and art installations. Originally from London, where she earned her BFA, Stephanie has an MFA from Syracuse in painting printmaking and ceramics. With 25 years of teaching experience, she currently runs art classes in at College of Marin, O'Hanlon Center for the Arts, and Art Works Downtown in San Rafael.
