Join us for a lively illustrated talk from visiting bookbinders Michael and Dominic, as they conclude their summer of teaching at SFCB.

Michael will tell the fascinating story of the oldest extant Western bindings, which were found in a clay pot in Egypt in 1945. The Nag Hammadi codices are 1800 years old, are in remarkably good condition, and contain the esoteric Gnostic Gospels.

Dominic will bring us up to date with a talk about the making of his latest commissioned Design Binding, The Natural History of Selbourne. In a step-by-step talk he will show how the binding was created, from the first design ideas to the execution of the intricate leather onlays and innovative gold tooling he uses in his work.

This evening will also feature a one day only exhibition of work produced by students during Michael and Dominic's teaching residency.
