We're thrilled to welcome Rhiannon Alpers back to SFCB as a visiting instructor for this special workshop!

This engaging 2-day weekend workshop offers a deep dive into the art of boxmaking, focusing on constructing a multi-tiered tray with a magnetic enclosure. Students will assemble the trays using pre-cut pieces and craft the wrapped enclosure, which features a magnetic hold. Each participant will customize their box with unique dividers and creative elements, using a variety of papers and bookcloth. The individual themes and color palettes chosen by each student will result in a stunning array of uniquely unified boxes.

In addition to the boxmaking, students will create a cover for a premade textblock to include within the box and divider trays. This simple yet delightful addition provides a canvas for future content, such as writing, collages, and mark-making techniques. The cover will utilize personalized bookcloth and decorative paper, adding a personalized touch to each student's project.

This course requires bookbinding experience, including knowledge of boxmaking, folding, sewing, gluing, measuring, and cutting. This foundation allows students to focus on the creative aspects of binding and box-making, ensuring a fulfilling and enriching workshop experience.
