This unique invented structure is sewn over leather straps and combines both the structural and the decorative through the use of unconventional materials. Layers, color, and depth play a key role in the painted board covers, and the sewing supports give a nod to historical bindings with an artistic variation.
In this two-day workshop students will explore the possibilities of combining hand-painted
wooden boards, non-adhesive binding, closures and sewing supports to create one of a kind books of their own. The structure has many applications which can give students ideas and inspiration about how to take this book to the next level in their own artists' book practice.
