To continue exploring and practicing techniques with both the flat broad-edge brush and pointed brush, this workshop will place an emphasis on creating a finished hand-lettered piece.  We will add more color, more embellishments and experiment with different paints and paper. In order to help facilitate a finished work on paper, we will discuss some basic principles of layout and composition.

Students will learn a variety of hand styles such as San Serif, Roman, and Casual Speed alphabets and continue to draw from a myriad of disciplines: sign writing, painting, drawing, typography and calligraphy.

More importantly this workshop is designed to keep students brush lettering.

Past Student Reviews:

“Fun, engaging, relaxed.”

“Everything was truly great. I really enjoyed that Emmanuel taught us to view letters as objects, figure out they are put together and how to deconstruct them to better understand how they would be made with the brush techniques we learned. His artistic approach to lettering as opposed to a more rigid calligraphic approach really resonated with me.”

“Emmanuel is a great instructor. He comes alive when teaching and is truly engaged with his class. His supplemental information: the reference books, morgue, and videos; helped us expand our knowledge while also showing how enthusiastic and serious Emmanuel is about this craft. It's always best to learn from an instructor that is truly passionate about what they do.”

“I liked the instructor, Emmanuel, and the way he organized the class. I liked having so much time to just work on lettering while he walked around and helped us. I also appreciated all of the books and resources he provided. I found the class very inspiring.”
