Students will get to complete at least three miniature bindings. When closed, these little delights measure 3/4” tall and 1/2” wide. They can be worn as pendants, earrings, charms, or strung up for bookish decoration around your home. Microscopic notes can be written inside; perhaps you’ll make an adorable library of books for your pocket! All materials will be provided, including foil stamped leather, earring hooks and necklace chains. Whether you intend to wear these yourself or gift them to a friend, they will be ready to showcase when you walk out of this three-hour class.


Materials to Bring: Optional: small glue brush (around ¼”), needle nose pliers, scraps of decorative paper for endsheets or covers.

Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: bone folder, utility knife, awl, scissors, metal straightedge.

About the Instructor | Monica Holtsclaw

Monica Holtsclaw holds a Diploma in bookbinding from the North Bennet Street School and a BFA in graphic design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has worked as a bookbinder in private practice and in conservation labs. Her artist books have been featured in Guild of Book Workers traveling exhibitions and can also be found in university collections across the country. She specializes in bookbinding and box making and loves sharing what she has learned with others.
