ROADWORKS: A STEAMROLLER PRINTING FESTIVAL
Saturday/ September 22/ 12 - 5pm/ FREE

We are proud to announce the arrival of our 9th annual Roadworks: A Steamroller Printing Festival. Roadworks is a day-long public printmaking showcase presented amid a selection of local food and fine craft vendors. Using a three-ton construction steamroller and an unlikely letterpress bed - Rhode Island Street - a team of artists and printers print large-scale prints from three-foot-square hand-carved linoleum blocks. Now in its 9th year, Roadworks has become a casual, popular tradition in the Potrero Hill neighborhood, drawing printmaking and book art enthusiasts as well as locals and families. Events for children will be scheduled all day. Free tours of the Austin/Burch Gallery, plus free letterpress, bookbinding, and other mini-workshops will be offered at SFCB during the festival.

Call for Entries: Roadworks Featured Artist The call for entries has been extended to this Thursday, July 5 at 5pm. Submit your entries now to be considered as a Roadworks featured artist! All details are here.

Calling all Vendors! SFCB is now accepting applications for vendors for this year's Roadworks. We accept applications for all craft vendors, with priority going to print and book arts related vendors. Vendors can purchase either a half or whole table; SFCB provides tables and chairs. Pricing information can be found on the Vendor Application Form. Please email roadworks@sfcb.org with questions. Please click here to download the form, and return to roadworks@sfcb.org.

AN EVENING WITH VISITING BOOKBINDERS MICHAEL BURKE AND DOMINIC RILEY
Saturday/ July 14/ 6 - 8pm/ FREE

Join us for a lively illustrated talk from visiting bookbinders Michael Burke and Dominic Riley, as they conclude their summer of teaching at SFCB. Michael will tell the fascinating story of the oldest bindings, which were found in a clay pot in Egypt in 1945. The Nag Hammadi codices are 1800 years old, are in remarkably good condition, and contain the esoteric Gnostic Gospels. Dominic will bring us up to date with a talk about the making of his latest commissioned Design Binding, The Natural History of Selbourne. In a step-by-step talk he will show how the binding was created, from the first design ideas to the execution of the intricate leather onlays and innovative gold tooling he uses in his work.
This evening will also feature a one day only exhibition of work produced by students during Michael and Dominic's teaching residency.

EXPLODING THE CODEX EXHIBITION NOW OPEN
Now showing in the Austin/Burch Gallery
Open Monday through Friday, 10am-5pm; Saturday 12pm-4pm
Lightning Talks/ Friday/ July 27/ 6-8pm/ FREE

SFCB is proud to announce its summer exhibition in the Austin/Burch Gallery, Exploding the Codex, a group show featuring the works of over 40 book artists from the collection of Mary Austin, curated by Daisy Carlson. The show explores the theater of the book and storytelling through structure. These books go beyond the traditional format to unveil new ways of presenting and telling stories. Often theatrical or stage-like in their presentation, they pull the viewer into their individual dramas and diverse varieties of form and presentation.
