THE SAN FRANCISCO CENTER FOR THE BOOK RENAMES GALLERY "AUSTIN/BURCH"
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.—July 13, 2006—The San Francisco Center for the Book renames its gallery the "Austin/Burch Gallery" in honor of the Center's founders Mary Austin and Kathleen Burch. The newly-named gallery will open with the Center's ten year anniversary exhibition, X Libris, on Friday, July 28th. "We are thrilled to be celebrating our tenth year," said Kathy Barr, executive director, San Francisco Center for the Book. "Mary and Kathleen's love for the art of a book has enabled us to preserve the book arts and create a wonderful meeting place for the Bay Area's growing book arts community." For more information on X Libris and other upcoming exhibits and workshops, please visit the Center's website at www.sfcb.org About San Francisco Center for the Book The San Francisco Center for the Book is a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring and encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object, as well as preserving the traditional art of book-making. The center provides both a home for Bay Area book artists and a place where the wider community can discover book arts. Our scores of workshops foster learning at all levels: from introductory classes to year long courses, from traditional bookbinding to cutting-edge printing techniques to experimental book art forms. Plus, there's always an exhibition up at the Center, designed to inform and delight visitors. Free public programs abound, too, from poetry readings, to book signings to gallery talks.
