José Herminio, D. Maria Fulô (Dona Maria Fulô) From the collection of Alastair Johnston. Neither political, religious, nor tragic, this historical account of a 17th-century lady who had four daughters without husbands, is purely comic. ("Don’t compare your daughters to chickens," it warns.) Ends with the poet asking you to read his other ballad histories.  | ||
